The Business Of Giving Back

3 Ways Your Business Can Get into the Holiday Spirit.
It's the season of giving. But sometimes we need a little nudge to get in the right frame of mind. Here are 3 different ways you and your business can cultivate generosity. AND 3 ways giving gives back to you!

1. Cultivate a Culture of Celebration
When your employees hit a milestone or goal, celebrate all together!
Create opportunities for your employees to recognize their co-workers who help them.
When you have a really great year, fiscally, pass on the wealth in a holiday bonus, prize, or time off.

2. Support Local Community
Create opportunities like paid time off or your employees to volunteer locally.
For employee recognition awards or prizes, shop locally, or give gift certificates for local businesses.
Looking for the best sponsorship opportunities? Ask your employees to submit their favorite local causes for consideration.

3. Give Without Needing Recognition
Go beyond summertime sponsorship giving, by getting involved with an ornament tree or local coat drive.
See if any of your local causes has an “Amazon Wish List” you can make an anonymous purchase from.
Take an employee vote for local causes, and make an anonymous donation. Your employees will know and be invested emotionally in it, but it’ll be a secret from the community.
3 Ways Giving Gives Back
1. Giving Rewires Our Brain
In a 2017 study, the human brain was mapped with fMRI to show that when you give, you become happier, which motivates you to give. Proving A neural link between generosity and happiness
“He who wishes to secure the good of others has already secured his own.” – Confucius
2. Celebrating Promotes Generosity
Celebrating your employees' wins makes them feel heard, seen, and recognized. They will be more invested in your business because you’ve proven that you’re invested in them. They will be more likely to help create opportunities for their team and coworkers to have the same experience. Sometimes we need to be reminded that giving feels like a celebration.
Altruism is innate, but it's not instinctual. Everybody's wired for it, but a switch has to be flipped. – David Rakoff
3. Giving Together Unites Your Team
Each time you work together as a business to support a local cause (whether donated anonymously or celebrated over social media) - you unite in a common goal. You collaborate and pull together to give. Giving creates a unique opportunity that overrides co-worker competition, sales goals, or office politics. It brings the company together as a community, emotionally invested in one outcome: bettering the lives of other people.
Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. – Vince Lombardi
The Bottom Line
When you give back, by celebrating, supporting local businesses, and anonymously giving - your business and employees create a shared experience of generosity, team-building, and collaboration that will build a foundation for how you do business together next year.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melody Beattie
Giving Back + Your Team = Forward Momentum
Give Back. It’s good business.
